In order to support the contractor’s bid for this redevelopment project, Meda explored options for a more unified interior space to address current working processes and lighten-up the brick brutalist structure.
The proposal inserts three new double-height spaces: the first linking a new staff entrance to the main reception, the second a ’break-out’ space at ground floor level, overlooked by a coloured glass balcony at first floor level, and located centrally within the building floor plate. Together, these bring natural daylight into the deep plan office floor plate and social spaces in the building.
The third is a new canteen facing the main approach to the building and opening into a patio garden. These areas are topped with and, in the case of the canteen, partially faced by ETFE cushions, bringing daylight and colour into the world of work.
